Let’s Talk Reports

A Little Help With the Heavy Lifting

You know your pupils well. You can talk about their progress, the moments that made you proud and where they need support. Turning all of that knowledge into a written report for every child can still take hours of concentration. This practical session explores how talking or writing about a pupil can become the starting point for a report. Using a fictional pupil profile, discover how AI can help organise your observations into a draft, then refine it so the detail is accurate, the next steps are useful and the voice is yours.

What we’ll explore

  • Start with what you know: Capture specific observations about learning, progress, strengths and next steps through spoken or written notes.
  • Turn observations into a draft: Explore how AI can organise your notes around the school's report structure.
  • Keep the child in the report: Spot generic language, missing detail and claims that your observations do not support.
  • Make it sound like you: Refine tone and wording, using a school-approved process and your professional judgement.

What you’ll work towards

Work through a practice report for a fictional pupil and develop an approach you can return to during reporting season. The aim is to spend less effort finding the words and more attention communicating what matters about each child.
